To catch a Dumbass

Police: ‘MySpace’ Helps Catch Thief:

21-year-old Robert Grosch of Ferndale, Michigan was so proud of his 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle that he posted pics of it on his MySpace. Except the bike wasn’t really his and the police were actively looking for it. They had suspected he stole the motorcycle and he basically signed his own arrest warrant by posting the pics.

For that act of criminal genius you’ve been awarded…

The MyCrimeSpace Dumbass Award

I get the feeling that the collective foot of police are going to make his ass gone in 60 seconds.

Illinois man charged with cyberstalking

Wayne County Man Arrested for Cyber-Stalking:

21 year-old Justin Savage of Fairfield, Illinois has been charged with felony counts of cyberstalking, identity theft, and electronic harassment of a witness. It seems that Mr. Savage was involved in a fight and rather than taking his punishment like a man he decided to create a fake MySpace in order to intimidate a witness.

He created a fake profile under the name of a former friend of his whose nickname is ‘Sabetya’. Savage then allegedly put threatening statements about the witness on the fake MySpace.

No word on what the possible sentence could be for these felonies.

And if you take a look at his mugshot he doesn’t look so Savage now.

Santa Cruz creeper lied about age to get underage girls on MySpace

Santa Cruz man lied about age to seduce underage girl on Myspace, detective says:

29-year-old Edgar Atilano Silva of Santa Cruz, California was arrested last week for allegedly forcing a teen girl that he met over MySpace to have sex with him. Silva allegedly lied about his age to gain the girl’s trust before forcing himself upon her. He then allegedly revealed his true age to the girl.

The victim took over a year to come forward and it’s unknown why she took so long. I’m sure Mr. Silva’s defenders will try to use that to make it look like the victim is lying even though sexually abused victims may not come forward right away for a multitude of reasons.

Police think that Silva may have had more victims.

38-year-old Gary Collins of St. Marys, Ontario amost fits the stereotype of a child molester. In March of 2007 Collins showed up with two Toblerone candy bars for 13-year-old Shelley Wyatt of London, Ontario. Collins had met Wyatt over Netlog, a social site favored heavily mostly by Europeans.

Except Shelley Wyatt was actually the Police. D’oh.

I wonder if he had a windowless van when he was arrested.

Brooke Bennett's stepdad seeks plea deal on child porn charges

Brooke’s stepdad seeks deal in porn case:

The former stepfather of murder victim Brooke Bennett is trying to get a plea deal on child porn charges filed against him in Texas and Alabama.

If you’ll recall Gagnon traveled from Texas to Vermont when 12-year-old Brooke was reported missing. While in Vermont he instructed his landlord back in Texas to dispose of his computer which was alleged to have held a cache of child porn. Gagnon was called to Vermont by Brooke’s accused killer Michael Jacques who is Brooke’s uncle.

Investigators in Alabama were tipped 9off to a house Gagnon owned there where they found two computers containing child porn.

Since Gagnon may have had a hand in covering up Brooke’s brutal kidnapping, rape and murder no deal should be offered.

Florida teen asaulted by man she met over MyYearbook

Delray Beach man, 23, charged with sexually assaulting Jupiter girl, 13:

23-year-old Jarrod Oliver White of Delray Beach, Flroida has been arrested in the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl he met over MyYearbook.

Based on just my anecdotal evidence it seems that MyYearbook is starting to become the new predator playground. But I digress…

According to reports White allegedly pressured the 13-yea-old girl into meeting him. The girl had also arranged a meeting with another guy, age unknown, at the same place and same time. The girl snuck out of her house at 1am to meet both of them. An argument ensued between the two males which resulted in the other male leaving. That’s when White allegedly sexually assaulted the girl.

If you ever wanted to know what kind of 23-year-old man wants a 13-year-old girl just take a look at his ‘DB’ish MySpace profile picture and you’ll see.

Facebook removes sex offenders

Facebook has removed 5,500 sex offenders since May:

Facebook removed over 5,500 convicted sex offenders from their site between last May and this January. That’s roughly an average of 600 per month.

In two years MySpace removed 90,000 sex offenders. That works out to 3,750 a month.

But the question remains does MySpace have more sex offenders on their site or are they just better at finding them than Facebook?

21-year-old Peter M. Cavaggioni of Rome, NY has been arrested for having sex with a 13-year-old girl at his residence. Police say he met the girl over MyYearbook which is a social site that’s geared towards school age teens. The fact that a 21-year-old was cruising MyYearbook may make you think this isn’t first foray into underage sex and you’d be correct.

Cavaggioni was arrested in December for having sex with a 16-year-old girl. That case is still pending.

Aussie Facebook vigilantes jeopardize bushfire case

Online vigilantes threaten arson case:

Facebook vigilantes from Australia have outed the identity of the alleged arsonist responsible for one of the many bushfires raging through Australia.

There was a protective order in place protecting the identity of 39-year-old Brendan Sokaluk who is accused of killing 21 in a bushfire that he allegedly started. That didn’t stop a group of Facebook users from divulging his identity, likeness and address. Part of the order has been lifted in regards to his name but in Australia you still can’t publish his likeness or address.

Police however are afraid that revealing his identity could put prosecution of Sokaluk in jeopardy by prejudicing a potential jury.

Leave the police do their job people. While I don’t agree with the Australian law it is the law. How would you feel if Sokaluk got off because of something you posted on Facebook?
