Alex Phillips pleads guilty

La Crosse Teen Pleads Guilty in MySpace Nude Pictures Case:

In case you’ve forgotten Alex Phillips was the then 17-year-old from La Crosse, Wisconsin who posted nude pictures of his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend on MySpace. When police recommended to him that he take the pictures down he told police “F*** that, I am keeping them up.”

He had previously pleaded not guilty to felony child porn charges. But now under a plea he has pleaded guilty to causing mental harm to a child and the felony child porn charges were dropped. He’s looking at years probation.

Pilot accused of solicitation

Pilot accused of online solicitation in Texas:

28-year-old pilot for Mesabe Airlines Steve Anderson was arrested in Houston, Texas for soliciting a 12-year-old boy for sex. Anderson was arrested at the teens home whom he met over MySpace. Authorities were notified when the boy’s teacher caught the boy texting Anderson while he was in class.

First of all what is a 12-year-old doing on MySpace? Secondly, whatever happened to ‘don’t talk to strangers’? When I was 12 if a 28-year-old guy approached me for sex you bet your ass I would have told my parents.

Mercades Nichols takes plea

Suspect in Teen Beating Accepts Plea Deal:

Mercades Nichols has accepted a plea deal in the video recorded beating of Victoria Lindsay. According to the terms of the plea Nichols faces up to three years probation, 100 hours of community service, she must write a letter of apology to Victoria, and she can not profit from the media. Also under the plea prosecutors agreed to drop the kidnapping charge which carries a life sentence.

If you’ll recall prosecutors said that they would only offer Nichols the deal if co-defendant Brittini Hardcastle also accepted a deal. She’s expected to take a plea deal on Feb. 4th.

Win her over with chloroform, more Casey Anthony shenanigans

Anthony lawyer wants more info about ex-boyfriend:

In the almost nine years that I’ve been writing about crime I’ve read about some stupid lawyers that have made some pretty ridiculous claims. However I think Casey Anthony’s attorney, Jose Baez, may just take the cake in that category.

Baez has filed a motion seeking more information for an alleged ex-boyfriend of Anthony, one Ricardo Morales. The reason that Baez wants information on Morales is that Morales had a picture on his MySpace that said “win her over with chloroform.” A Google Image Search for the picture turns it up on various websites.

It’s more than likely not a picture that Mr. Morales made himself. It’s one of those pictures that’s spread around the internet that people post on their MySpaces or blogs because they find it humorous in a dark way.

This is nothing more than Baez grasping at straws trying to find anything that would deflect guilt away from his client. It’s not working.

Conn. AG wants sex offender data from MySpace, again

Conn. AG to MySpace: Turn over sex offender data:

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has subpoenaed MySpace, again, to get them to turn over information about sex offenders belonging to their sites.

Yet another PR move from the AG’s office in my opinion.

You know MySpace isn’t the only site where sex offenders reside. You may want to try Facebook and MyYearbook as well but MySpace is the face of sex offenders by the soccer moms that Blumenthal is courting for votes.

I have an idea. Why doesn’t the AG’s office try and find these sex offenders themselves. It’s not that hard really. Myself and other bloggers constantly find various criminals on MySpace. It’s not that hard.

But then AG Blumenthal wouldn’t have anyone to blame but his own office and that won’t happen. Nor will calls for more parental responsibility.

Man who killed wife over Facebook status sentenced

Wife murdered for Facebook status:

Back in May of last year 41-year-old Edward Richardson stabbed his 26-year-old estranged wife, Sarah Richardson, to death allegedly over changing her Facebook status to ‘single’. A British court sentenced Richardson to only 17 years in prison even though the attack was brazenly brutal.

However I admonish the BBC and every other media outlet for using such fear mongering headlines. Sarah Richardson wasn’t killed because of her Facebook status but because her husband was a jealous and psychotic prick. If it wasn’t Facebook she would have probably been killed for not returning his phone calls or some other petty crap.

Also this is another example of the light sentences handed out in the UK.

Gangsta has bail raised because of his MySpace

MySpace page used against gang suspect:

23-year-old Spencer Bomberry had been arrested for slashing a man in the face but was out on $5000 bond. An assistant district attorney tried to get the judge to revoke bail by citing Bomberry’s MySpace. Obviously not the one I posted.

On Bomberry’s MySpace he boasted about his gang affiliation by showing pictures of himself wearing gang colors and giving the obligatory gang signs.

The judge didn’t revoke bail but did raise it to $50K. The judge even stated that it was Bomberry’s MySpace that hurt him the most.

For his obvious criminal prowess this gangsta gets awarded the brand spanking new…

Plea reached in Victoria Lindsay beating

Plea Deal Accepted In Teen Beating Case:

18-year-old Brittany Mayes has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery in the video recorded beating of Florida teen Victoria Lindsay. Under the plea agreement prosecutors dropped felony charges of kidnapping and witness tampering. Mayes is facing a possible one year behind bars. Also Mayes can have no contact with Victoria and can not profit from her crime. The judge warned her to keep her nose clean between now and sentencing which is scheduled for March 5th.

Lawyers for Kayla Hassall and April Cooper said their clients are scheduled to accept pleas in the beginning of February. Mercades Nichols and Brittani Hardcastle must both accept pleas or they both head to trial.

Both Nichols and Hardcastle face charges of kidnapping, misdemeanor battery and tampering with a witness. The kidnapping charge could carry a life sentence.

My advice to all those involved is to take the pleas. You’ll be eaten alive at trial.

Ill. man used MySpace to have sex with teen boy

Police: Man Used MySpace To Lure Child For Sex:

Mr. Creepy Stare over there is 39-year-old Daniel A. Modaff of Marseilles, Illinois. He’s been arrested for using MySpace to have sex with a 13-year-old boy.

Modaff met the boy online then found the boy’s cell phone number that was posted on the boy’s MySpace. The boy’s parents found the text messages that Modaff used to communicate with the boy.

While Modaff is obviously the monster here how could parents not know that their son was posting his cell phone number to MySpace?
