Italian Mob idolized on Facebook

Facebook pages honor jailed mob bosses:

First we have the American kids who idolize school shooters on their MySpaces. Then recently we found out about the Mexican MySpaces that glorify violent drug lords as folk heroes.

Now from the country that made organized crime famous we have Italian Facebook groups that idolize jailed Mafia bosses, specifically mob bosses Bernardo Provenzano and Salvatore “Toto” Riina. The families of their victims are obviously not too pleased.

It seems that these Facebook groups are inhabited by the Italian version of American kids who wear all the Scarface gear and think they’re badasses when in reality they’re just dumbasses.

Seattle whines about snow on Facebook

Mad about snow response, Seattleites take protest to Facebook:

Speaking of whiny Facebook protest groups some of the citizens of Seattle have taken to the stre…I mean their keyboards to complain about the city’s slow response to a recent snowfall. To which I say, suck it up.

I live in North Carolina where when it snows we’re screwed. I believe the state has one snow plow for the entire state and it’s usually up in Boone.

However I grew up in New Jersey where they get a decent amount of snow and we didn’t wait for the city to clear the snow. We got up got in our cars and dangerously trudged off to work.

I also lived in Philadelphia during blizzards where all parking laws were still in full effect. You what we did? We dealt with it which is what you should be doing.

It seems that some people in Seattle have an overinflated sense of entitlement.

You wouldn’t last a day on the East Coast.

Tustin High athletic trainer really liked her students

Tustin High School athletic trainer arrested on sex charges:

Meet 23-year-old Hope Jacoby. She’s what I like to call an FSP or Female Sexual Predator. She worked as an athletic trainer for Tustin High School in Orange County, California. She was arrested for, and I quote, suspicion of oral copulation of a minor and unlawful sex with a minor. In English she was diddling boys from the school ranging in ages from 14 to 17.

Let’s go to her ‘About Me’…

Let’s see. there’s a lot to tell…maybe. My names Hope ~I love goin out.Im a huge fan of the hug. I hug all my friends, and think its an important way to say hi and bye. If I dont hug you, I probably dont like you.

So she must REALLY like the students at Tustin high.

Now I’m just waiting for the inevitable slew of troglodytes who are going to say such things as ‘I wish she was at my school when I was 14′ and ‘These kids aren’t victims’. Those lowlifes are obviously not parents and would probably be outraged if the gender positions were reversed.

Thanks to HNB from Metal Sludge for the tip.

Keeping abreast of Facebook breastfeeding controversy

Facebook Users Gripe after Breastfeeding Pics Removed:

In a case of history repeating itself some Facebook moms are upset that Facebbok has taken to deleting some pics in which breastfeeding is depicted.

As LiveJournal discovered when they started deleting such pics the ‘lactivists’ are not happy. When LiveJournal did it the angry moms staged a sit in at Six Apart HQ. Now they’ve staged a small protest outside of Facebook’s offices.

Basically what it comes down to is Facebook has been deleting any pics where the nipple is exposed. The breastfeeders say that shouldn’t matter since the pictures aren’t being presented in a sexual way. I hate to break it to you ladies but there are some guys out there who would look at it in a sexual way.

Anyway the moms have done something that all disgruntled Facebook users do. They started Facebook groups in protest. That’ll show ‘em. Do these Facebook groups really think that they’re taking them down by using their service?

Anyway I’m sure Facebook will give in just like 6A did when they still owned LiveJournal.

I get the feeling that the only thing he’ll be doing with his ‘lifes’ is time.

MyCrimeSpace 2008: The year that was

My boss at b5media, whom I greatly respect, has suggested that maybe a ‘best of 2008′ type post is in order. Unfortunately this site isn’t the kind that has ‘best of’ stories per se. However we did have two really huge stories this year that seemed to grab more attention than the others.

The first that leaps to mind is the disappearance and death of Brooke Bennett.

Brooke Bennett was a 12-year-old girl from Vermont who disappeared back in June. It was originally thought that she ran off with someone she met on MySpace. Unfortunately after her body was found it appeared that her sex offender uncle, Michael Jacques, had altered her MySpace to make it look like she ran away. It didn’t end there though because the case has had as many twist and turns as a roller coaster.

When Jacques first became a person of interest in the case he contacted Brooke’s ex-stepfather Ray Gagnon. Gagnon traveled from Texas, where he lived, to Vermont. While in Vermont he phoned home to Texas and asked his landlord to dispose of a computer that Gagnon owned. That computer is alleged to have a vast cache of child porn on it and has not been recovered. Gagnon has also been arrested for destruction of evidence.

The state of Vermont does not have the death penalty but the feds have taken charge in this case since using Brooke’s MySpace while committing a capital crime is technically crossing state lines where it then became a federal case making Jacques eligible for the death penalty.

The attention garnered by this story not only caused me to close down an epic thread because there were too many comments and caused me to open my message board again. Any details you may want to know about this case can be found at either of those two links.

The other big story of the year was the recorded beating of Victoria Lindsay. Back in April 16-year-old Lindsay of Polk County, Florida was lured to a friends house where she was beaten by several girls that she believed were her friends. The beating was recorded on one of the suspect’s cell phones. Originally it was thought that the assault was recorded in order to post to MySpace and YouTube in order to further humiliate the victim.

This was a case that was tailor made for the daytime TV talk shows. As a matter of fact it was so made for daytime TV that a staff member of the Dr. Phil Show bailed out one of the suspects. Allegedly that staff member did so without the permission of the show.

Since the original offense some of the suspects have been arrested again for other unrelated offenses. One of the suspect’s mother has even filed a lawsuit against police for allegedly acting inappropriately.

The most important thing in my opinion that has happened in 2008 is that there have been less stories reported about crimes as they relate to social networking sites. I hope that’s because of there have actually been less crimes and not just because the media is tired of reporting on them.

Here’s hoping that in 2009 you don’t find your name on these pages.

Violent drug lords hailed as heroes on MySpace

Outlaws honored on social Web sites:

Even people with a passing knowledge of crime news know about the brutality of drug related crimes in Mexico. Anyone, including police and military that stand up to the drug cartels end up dead or worse. If Mexico wasn’t so historically corrupt I’m sure it would be a daily feature at the News of Doom.

So much like American MySpaces that glorify serial killers and school shooters it should come as no surprise that there are Mexican MySpaces that glorify these murderous drug lords as folk heroes.

It really shows how impotent law enforcement in Mexico really is. Maybe if the country wasn’t so badly run they wouldn’t have so many people trying to escape.

Delaware County, Pa. task force joins MySpace

Detectives using MySpace to prowl for sex predators:

The Delaware County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force on Pennsylvania is yet another law enforcement agency that has created a MySpace profile in order to help kids stay safe.

Just like a lot of other agencies Delaware County created the MySpace profile to have kids add them as their friend in hopes to discourage sexual predators.

And also as usual the article I got the information from failed to provide a link to their MySpace so if anyone can find it please post it in the comments.

Anyway, Detective Lisa Carroll of the task force brought up a brilliant point…

“If there is unwanted contact, a lot of kids are reluctant to tell mom or dad because of fear of having the computer taken away,” said Carroll.

Det. Carroll and Detective Michele Deery are hoping that the Task Force’s MySpace will help alleviate that problem.

Petaluma teacher pleads not guilty

Teacher pleads not guilty in MySpace messaging case:

I originally posted about Scott Dietlin here. He’s the teacher from Petaluma, California who was caught sending sexually explicit messages to a 15-year-old girl named Jackie on MySpace. ‘Jackie’ was actually a group of kids who set up a fake profile but attracted Dietlin’s attention.

Tuesday Dietlin pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and is still being held on $700K bond.

He’s looking at 5 years behind bars.

Underage Facebook party busted

Police: Underage Drinking Party Advertised On Facebook:

Police in Bessemer City, NC received a tip that an underage party was being advertised on Facebook.

When they went to the house of Steven Haney, and his girlfriend, Melissa Wilson they arrested the pair and charged 31 others for underage drinking.

And to top it all off Ms. Wilson was Tasered for failing to respond to police orders.

Remember what we say kids. Nothing is private on the internet. If you don’t want the cops to come to your house don’t post it on Facebook.
