First off I hope you all had a Happy and safe Thanksgiving those of you in the U.S. Now on to the story I’m sure you’ve been waiting for me to talk about.
Lori Drew was convicted. As I’m sure you all know by now she was only convicted of the lesser misdemeanor charges of three counts of accessing a computer without authorization. The jury was hung on the felony count of conspiracy. If I remember correctly the most she can get is one year a piece for each of the misdemeanor convictions. Let’s face it though, she’ll do no time.
U.S. District Judge George Wu still has not ruled on the defense’s motion for a mistrial which could result in there being no conviction whatsoever.
I’m going to wait on Judge Wu’s ruling before I offer any further commentary because anything I say now could be made moot come Monday or when ever he decides to rule.
Two dumbasses in Wisconsin thought it would be funny if they made their car look like a cop car and pulled people over. Usually that ends with people pulling over a real police officer but that didn’t happen in this case.
I guess since they weren’t successful in ‘poking the bear’ dumbasses Cody Hobson, 20, and Ronald Lyons, 21, thought they would record themselves pulling over unsuspecting motorists and post the videos on YouTube.
Because of the YouTube videos someone tipped off police to their activities.
For thinking their cunning plan through Messrs. Hobson and Lyons are the latest recipients of…
34-year-old Scott Eugene Dietlin was a teacher at Casa Grande High School in Petaluma, California. He’s probably still be if it wasn’t for those meddling kids.
A bunch of 15-year-old boys created a fake profile of a 15-year-old girl named ‘Jackie’. Dietlin contacted the fake girl and the boys played along. Dietlin of course sent the prerequisite naked pics of himself to ‘Jackie’. The boys finally decided to getting around to calling police.
But here’s a puzzler for you. Is what the boys did any different than what Lori Drew did? Discuss.
Previously I posted about a teacher in the Charlotte, NC school system who may be fired over a Facebook posting that said she “teach(es) chitlins in the ghetto of Charlotte.”
Now one school employee has been fired and another might be fired.
The one who was fired was an after school staffer who posted on his Facebook for listing “Chillin with my n—as”. The other teacher who might be fired posted that she’s “p—ed because I hate my students”. She’s a special ed teacher by the way. She’s been suspended and School Superintendent Peter Gorman is recommending that she be fired.
Now some people are up in arms saying that teachers deserve a private life. I agree, however if you make these opinions public you’re inviting trouble on yourself. If you and I were to post bad things about our jobs on Facebook and our bosses found out about them wouldn’t we be fired too?
Also teachers are held to a higher standard since they’re in charge of our children for most of the day.
Again I have to remind people that nothing is private on the internet.
Ghetto Chitlins teacher’s lawyer is defending his client by saying that she can’t be fired for telling the truth since the school is in a ghetto. Good luck with that.
U.S. District Court Judge George Wu said today that he will not rule on whether or not the charges against Lori Drew will be dismissed. Instead he cited a rule that allows him to wait after a verdict is reached before deciding on dismissal.
Meanwhile the trial will continue.
I have a feeling that George Wu already has his mind made up to dismiss but wants to see if the jury will take that responsibility away from him.
The defense rested today without calling Lori Drew to the stand.
The case has been sent to the jury after closing arguments. In those arguments Drew’s attorney laid the blame of Megan’s death squarely at the feet of Tina Meier, Megan’s mother.
A woman in England was thrown off of a jury for asking people for their opinion on Facebook. The trial involves the abduction and sexual assault of 14-year-old girl. She opened a poll on Facebook saying that she didn’t know which way to go so the poll asked if the defendants were guilty or innocent.
Of course that made it’s way back to the court and the woman was booted from the jury.
I guess even in England a jury of your peers means 12 dumbasses that couldn’t get out of jury duty.
12-year-old Juliana Carrozza of Brooklyn, New York is missing and her family believes she may have run off with someone on MySpace. According to her MySpace profile she listed her age as 17 and posed in provocative clothing.
She was last seen on November 14th getting into a black sedan possibly a limo.
Relatives said Juliana weighs 120 pounds and is about 5-feet-8. She was last seen wearing white pants and a couple of sweatshirts, one red and one white.
You can click the link to the article to see pictures of Julianna.
I really don’t mean to come down on her family but you have to be smarter than your kids even if they’re more adept on the computer than you are.
“She went on MySpace a lot, fooling me and my wife,” Carrozza said. “She knew how to delete it without us picking it up. The language on there was disgusting for a 12-year-old. There was guys there, too.”
No matter your age, no matter how much you trust your kids you have to keep them on a short leash when it comes to the internet. I don’t know where the computer was kept in their household but again I have to stress that when you have young kids like this the computer needs to be kept in a public area where the family can monitor activity on it.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Carrozza family in hopes that Julianna is found safe soon.
Drew’s former hairdresser, Christina Chu, testified that Drew considered the harassment of Megan Meier ‘a funny story’.. Chu even admonished Drew for what she was doing. When Chu asked why Drew wasn’t going to Megan’s wake Drew reportedly said “It’s not like I pulled the trigger.”
Ashely Grills testified that when Drew learned of Megan’s death that Drew said to her “`We could have pushed her overboard because she was suicidal and depressed.’” Ya think?
And when Grills expressed her concerns to Drew about getting in trouble Drew dismissed it saying “It was fine and people do it all the time.”
MySpace executive Jae Sung basically testified that you have to check a box that shows you accept MySpace’s TOS. You think that would be a stupid thing to testify about but not everyone out in the non-internet world knows this.
Also an FBI agent testified that Drew deleted files from her computer on the day of Megan’s suicide but they couldn’t tell what the files contained.
The prosecution rested and the defense made a motion for dismissal claiming that the prosecution did not prove Drew committed a crime. The Judge did not treject the motion and will rule on dismissal on Monday.
Drew’s daughter Sara testifed that Lori Drew told Ashley Grills to delete the fake MySpace two weeks before Megan committed suicide.
Back in July I posted about Harun Ali Abdulle of Rochester, Minn. He was arrested for brutally assaulting his sister because of what he found objectionable on her MySpace.
The trial started this past week and the usual court room shenanigans ensued. The prosecution accuses Abdulle of kicking and beating his sister in the face. Meanwhile the defense claims that he did in this in self defense because Abdulle said he would go to their mother about her MySpace. The defense claims that the sister attacked Abdulle first which still doesn’t explain why he would have to kick her in the face.
The defense attorney even tried to excuse Abdulle’s actions by claiming that arguments like thiss happen in a lot of households. They do but without the face kicking usually.
