This one is so heart wrenching as a parent that I’m at a loss for words.
Megan Meier was a 13-year-old girl that had some problems but things were turning around for her. That was until she got a friend request from someone claiming to be, in Megan’s words, a hot 16-year-old boy by the name of Josh.
The two remained friends on MySpace for a while then all of a sudden Josh started sending disparaging messages to Megan. Comments like “I don’t know if I want to be friends with you anymore because I’ve heard that you are not very nice to your friends.”
Then MySpace bulletins started circulating about her that said things like “Megan Meier is a slut. Megan Meier is fat.”
It bothered her so much that Megan Meier took her own life.
That’s not even the worst part.
Worst Part #1: Josh never existed and this was all done by adults.
Worst Part #2: No criminal charges are being filed.

The internet is a tool. good and bad. More good than bad. Like any tool..you must teach young impressionable minds to understand how the tool works and respect it and take care of it..and some of these tools may have minds of their own that want to control, manipulate or take your money. Just like in THE REAL WORLD. The faster AND younger they learn this the better!!! Sheltering your kids from knowledge about bad people in the world is the WORST thing you can do. You are limiting their chances of survival of the fittest!
Self-control the ego is another tool to be taught at a young age. Her ego was destroyed..and she was weak about herself…probably from “too much sheltering” and thus the ego, which has such a strong hold, will “eliminate itself” along with the body to protect it or win (It doesn’t care about hypocrisy)! This results in either murdering others for a idealist concept and/or suicide. (e.g. Dr. Tiller murder)

Ego? I hope that you’re joking right there. This woman was taunting (or tormenting) Megan through a false name, under a false profile with her false age!
my turn, this is dumb & i’m really bored. (1) 13 year old Megan Meier commited sucide over something she read. Where were her parents in all this? (2) The other girl, hell i didn’t even chatch her name, well we know where her parents where in all this. seems momma did this(3) get off the fucking internet. go outside & live. parents, check on your kids-the internet ain’t cool.

Megan Meier deserved to die for lack of value on her life. Laurie didn’t kill her, she didn’t put a gun to her head, and she didn’t put the knife in her hand.
