Conviction overturned because of MySpace

Police Blotter: MySpace profile sets convicted felon free:
40-year-old Danny Cecil of West Virginia was convicted for molesting two underage girls. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison. That was until November 21st when his conviction was overturned because two of the jurors had found one of the victim’s MySpace.

Here’s what the court of appeals had to say…

We are mindful that the independent investigation conducted by two of the jurors did not bear fruit, which arguably lessens the prejudicial effect, but notwithstanding that fact, the mere fact that members of a jury in a serious felony case conducted any extrajudicial investigation on their own is gross juror misconduct which simply cannot be permitted.

Now Cecil is free and lives only a few doors down from one of his victims. His new trial is to take place in the Spring. God forbid he should claim another victim in that time. If he does I hope those jurors can live with their decision.

NY school shooting plot on MySpace

Students arrested, charged with plotting school attack:
Three teens were arrested for plotting an attack against Arlington High School in LaGrangeville, New York. The three arrested were 16-year-olds Patrick Quigley and Joseph Saia from Poughquag and an unidentified 15-year-old from Hopewell Junction. They’ve all been charged with felony fourth-degree conspiracy.

How were the geniuses caught? The usual. MySpace. It seems that the little criminals posted the details of their attack on MySpace. They planed their attack for April 20, 2010. The 11th Anniversary of Columbine.

I’ll be posting more details on this at one of my other sites, TheTrenchcoat Chronicles.

Belleville students reinstated

Judge reverses expulsion of students over MySpace gun photo:
The students from Belleville High School that were expelled for posting pics on their MySpaces of them posing with guns drugs and money, not so much.

A judge has ordered that the school reinstate the criminals…I mean students.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Cynthia Stephens criticized the district for failing to keep a record of the closed Nov. 3 disciplinary hearing that led to the expulsions.

She says the schools can hold a new hearing. But they must do so by Friday and must keep a record this time.

Hearings? Why in my day you were expelled on the spot and there were no lawsuits and your parents beat your ass for it. Damn kids these days. Now get off my lawn.

Katherine Lester breaks it off

MySpace romance ends on Dr. Phil:
Everyone’s favorite globetrotting Myspace runaway teen Katherine Lester was on the Dr. Phill show once again. This time it was to break off the relationship she had with the Arab man known as Abdullah Psycho. To make matters more humiliating for Abdullah is that the break up was done via satellite.

“I’m not going to be with you any more,” the 18-year-old told her Palestinian boyfriend, Abdullah Jinzawi, who watched her on a monitor from Jericho, Jordan.
Jinzawi sat silent for a moment, pulled off his microphone and stepped away from the camera.

“Well, that’s mature,” McGraw said.

Earlier on the show, Lester told McGraw — after some prodding — that Jinzawi was emotionally and physically abusive.

So is getting dumped via satellite better or worse than being dumped by text message?

Anyway it seems that Ms. Lester has finally realized what everybody was saying about her internet boyfriend. Hopefully this saga has finally come to an end.
