MISSING: Kim Whitton and Haleigh Culwell

Myspace page set up for missing mother and daughter:

Kim Whitton and 11-year-old Haleigh Culwell of Jackson County were last seen June 21st.

Kim and Haleigh’s friends are rallying the community, a banning together of sorts.

Their goal is to raise awareness in hopes of bringing an end to this ordeal.

Kim’s co-workers at Cloverdale Manor in Scottsboro started the campaign.

They’re the ones that reported them missing and now they want to help bring them home.

They’ve also turned to the internet.

“A few of us got together and created a Myspace page,” says Wright.

Adorned in purple ribbons, the website has messages from friends and family.

It’s just another way to make sure the missing mother and daughter don’t fade from our hearts and minds.

“We just want to keep their pictures out there in the news and see if anyone recognizes them or has any knowledge to their whereabouts or what has happened. We’re going into the 6th week now and still no word from either of them,” says Wright.

The Myspace can be viewed here. Please take a look in the chance that you might know something.

NC MySpace bill fails

Energy bill advances; MySpace rules fail:
North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper’s proposed legislation to make teens get parental permission before signing up for MySpace has failed in the State House.

But the second bill lost its headlining clause, a requirement that parents give permission for their younger teenagers to sign up for online social-networking sites. Rep. Jennifer Weiss, D-Wake, said that legal and technical experts raised too many unanswered questions about whether the proposal was feasible and constitutional.

It is expected that the Senate will reject the changes and the bill will end up in a conference committee.

So there still are some sensible politicians left in the world.

Brigitte Harris

Mutilated body of man found in Queens:
First let me give you the article quotes about the crime in question…

The body of a 55-year-old man was found bound, gagged and reportedly castrated in a Queens attic apartment yesterday after the female tenant called 911 and fled, cops and witnesses said.

Brigitte Harris left in such a hurry shortly before 1 p.m. that she didn’t close the door to her apartment or the front door to the three-story Arverne house, said Felicia Khan, who owns the building with her husband, Alan.

Harris, who is in her 20s, works at Kennedy Airport for the Transportation Security Administration and has lived in the apartment for about a year, Alan Khan said, adding that she was quiet and often had female guests over, but never men.

Cops did not say how the man died or respond to TV reports that he had been mutilated.

The victim’s name was not immediately released.

A 41-year-old neighbor described Harris as a tough-looking woman who dresses in punk attire and has multicolored hair. “She stands out from the crowd,” said the man, who gave only his first name, Collin.

Police were searching for Harris last night.

An anonymous reader sent me the link to Harris’ MySpace along with the following note.

MySpace page links to her flixster account where she recently reviewed a movie called Hard Candy about a girl who castrates a child predator and her review states it is “the perfect revenge movie” which probably establishes her motive. From there you can find her eBay account where she purchased a scalpel a few weeks ago, she also has facebook and friendster accounts. She is reportedly the step-daughter of the victim.

I haven’t seen it confirmed that the victim was her stepfather so that is purely speculation at this point.

NJ man arretsed for MySpace assault

Cops: Girl victim of MySpace assault:
19-year-old Jhor Guerra of New Brunswick, New Jersey has been arrested for having sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl he met on MySpace.

Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne J. Forrest said Guerra and a 22-year-old man met with the girl and another 13-year-old girl in an apartment in the Somerset section of Franklin. The men gave the girls alcohol, and Guerra “engaged in sexual activity” with one of the girls, Forrest said.

The victim reported the sexual contact to Dunellen police at about 11:45 p.m. July 20, Forrest said. Forrest said the victim told police she had met Guerra on MySpace.

I was able to find two MySpaces for Guerra however they are both bare bones. In true MySpace fashion there has been a MySpace set up by his supporters entitled obviously enough FREE JHOR.

Punta Gorda PD make a different kind of arrest

Police: Myspace mission leads to sex arrest:
The police department of Punta Gorda, Florida have been featured on this site many times. Usually it’s for the arrest of some drug dealer that blatantly advertises on MySpace. This time they made a completely different kind of arrest.

Punta Gorda PD arrested 19-year-old Tyler Stancker of Pennsylvania. Stancker traveled from Pennsylvania to Florida in order to have sex with a 14-year-old girl he met on MySpace.

He is being charged with fourteen counts of Lewd Battery, two counts of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation, and one count of Prohibited Use of Computer Services.

He will be transported to the Charlotte County Jail for booking procedures where he will be held on no bond.

Wow, no bond. That’s pretty harsh. Not that he’ll get any sympathy from me. I still don’t understand why someone would travel that great a distance for a 14-year-old girl.

Comments on MySpace turn into boxcutter assault

Fight over MySpace comments turns violent:
A 17-year-old Florida girl is under arrest for attacking two other girls with a boxcutter after the three got into a fight over MySpace comments.

The 17-year-old and two other girls got into a fight Tuesday night on Parker Street in Zephyrhills. They “had issues with one another over comments made on MySpace.com,” according to the Zephyrhills police report.

Police wouldn’t say what those comments were – but it took friends and family to break the battling girls apart.

The 17-year-old started swinging a box cutter, injuring three people involved in the scuffle. Pasco Fire Rescue treated the victims at the scene.

Police took the 17-year-old to Florida Hospital of Zephyrhills after she told police she was four months pregnant and had been kicked in the stomach.

She told police she hadn’t meant to cut anyone, according to the report.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. MySpace really is the trailer park of the internet.

Teen thieves busted on Nexopia

Police track suspects using Nexopia website:
A group of teenage thieves were busted by Saskatoon police by using the Canadian social site Nexopia.

Saskatoon police have charged two teenagers and are investigating at least three other cases after robbery suspects were identified using the popular social networking website Nexopia.

“Victims looked at the site and said, ‘Hey, that’s the person who robbed me,’ ” said Staff Sgt. Kirby Harmon of the Saskatoon Police Service general investigations unit.

“Short of coming right in here and confessing, these individuals couldn’t be much more helpful than posting their pictures on this site.” The police were investigating two connected street robberies that took place in the Confederation area on July 4.

Two 16-year-old girls allegedly stole purses, digital cameras and cellphones from four teenage girls. Two of the victims, both Nexopia users, came across the profile pictures of the girls that allegedly robbed them and passed their user names on to police.

“They stumbled on it,” Harmon said.

After the two suspects were questioned by police, they allegedly tracked down the victims’ profiles and began to threaten them online, again using Nexopia.

For being such criminal geniuses it is my honor to bestow upon you…

Altoona man busted for soliciting fake minor

Altoona man arrested for soliciting supposed Tyrone minor over the internet:
45-year-old Jeff Karle of Altoona, Pennsylvania has been arrested for soliciting sex from a 14-year-old girl over MySpace. Except that the 14-year-old girl was actually Tyrone, Pa. Borough Council Vice President William Latchford.

Latchford acted on his own and created this persona for the internet on MySpace.com. Latchford belongs to a group dedicated to the protection of children from predators on the internet.

Latchford first met with Tyrone Police on July 18, 2007 to inform them of his contact with the Altoona man, Jeff Karle, age 45. Latchford first made contact as ‘Jessica’ on July 14 and Karle was aware of how old ‘Jessica’ supposedly was. Karle told ‘Jessica’ that it was okay that she was 14.

During the time period between July 14 and July 18, when Latchford met with police, Karle discussed a variety of graphic sexual acts that he enjoys, also asking what “turns you on”, and asking ‘Jessica’ if she wanted to be his girlfriend.

On July 19, Karle asked ‘Jessica’ if she would like to get together and that he would “love to be her first” and have sex with her. They made arrangements to meet at the Wendy’s near Altoona Hospital on July 20.

Two officers from the Tyrone Police Department were present and identified Karle through pictures printed off MySpace.com. When police spotted him, a Tyrone Police Officer not in uniform went inside the Wendy’s, displayed his badge, and told him he was under arrest and to step outside the restaurant. A uniformed Tyrone Police Officer was also present at the Altoona Wendy’s.

At this point Karle became physically tense and would not comply with orders to relax and put his hand behind his back. Karle then struggled and attempted to run away. Officers had to physically subdue him. After a brief struggle, he complied.

Karle was then transported to the Tyrone Police Department. Karle admitted to Tyrone Police Officers that he was having problems with his girlfriend and that he was going to meet with ‘Jessica’ at Wendy’s to teach his girlfriend a lesson that he could get another girlfriend. Karle also said that he thought ‘Jessica’ was 39-years-old.

Tyrone Police Officers Billy Mayes and Dustin Rhoades explained the printouts of his conversations with ‘Jessica’ that stated she was 14. Karle said he couldn’t call Tyrone Police Officers liars.

Karle stated that he knew he made a big mistake and that he had come to Wendy’s to meet “Jessica’ and if she looked 14-years-old, he would have confronted her about the dangers of the internet.

Wow, that’s straight out of the busted predator handbook. Was he not going to preach the gospel to her too?

Canada's sex offenders not affected by purge

MySpace kicks out sex offenders — but not in Canada:
This is a great article from Canada.com that explains while 29,000 registered U.S. sex offenders were located and removed from MySpace’s userbase, no such purge will happen in Canada.

“We can’t even work with any private companies or law-enforcement agencies because we simply can’t get hold of the data,” said John Cardillo, CEO of Sentinel Tech, who said predators are more free to use Canadian social networking sites to lure young victims.

The public does not have access to the national sex offender registry — a database that provides Canadian police services with information to investigate crimes of a sexual nature.

“When the bad guys have to cover their tracks, they get caught,” Cardillo said, who added it was only in May that MySpace began to use his Sentinel Tech’s technology, after signing a seven-figure deal reached with MySpace’s owners, News Corp.

But because Canada’s federal government has not publicly released the names of registered sex offenders, those people are able to travel on the information highway, virtually undetected, Cardillo said. “We can’t see who they are so we can’t see where they are.”

I’d like to hear from Canadians on whether or not they think the sex offender registry should be made public.
