Addie Kubisiak

kubisiak.jpgNewborn In Murder Investigation Was Born In Car:
Addie Kubisiak, 18, of Parker, Colorado has been arrested in the death of a newborn. Police are saying that the baby was born in a car traveling through Douglas County. The remains of the newborn were found at Kubisiak’s dorm room at Western State College. It’s unclear from all reports that I’ve read whether or not the newborn belonged to Kubisiak or not. Kubisiak is facing first degree murder charges. Thanks to K we have Kubisiak’s MySpace. It has been set to private.

MySpace helps catch embezzler

Woman captured after citizen recognized her on MySpace:
Dawn Marie Cruse was wanted by Richmond, Kentucky for over year on charges that she stole money from her employer. And she would have gotten away with it too if it wasn’t for some meddling MySpacer. An anonymous tipster recognized Cruse’s picture from the Richmond PD website as someone on MySpace. Police picked her up shortly thereafter. I was unable to find a MySpace for Cruse.

Josh Gilchrist

MySpace Reveals Information About Teen:
Josh Gilchrist was a 16-year-old kid who killed his mother, 49-year-old Betty Jo Gilchrist, with a sword. He swung the sword at police hitting an officer who in turn shot and killed Gilchrist. So far no motive was given for the murder but the article states that friends leaving messages on Gilchrist’s MySpace should have been a sign that something was wrong with Gilchrist. Here is Gilchrist’s MySpace. For some reason he claimed that he was 22.

Fake MySpace gets student expelled

Lawsuit Involving Fake MySpace Page In Tipton County:
Chris Barnett of Brighton High School in Brighton Tenn. made a fake MySpace of his assistant principal. He posted about the assistant principal acting inapropriately around female students. Barnett was then thrown out of school. Did his parents admonish him for not finding a more reasonable way to address his concerns about the assistant principal? Of course not. They’re suing the school.

Chris’s dad Donald Barnett is furious with how school officials decided to handle the situation. He said it is a violation of his son’s right to free speech. “It was just so outlandish the way they reacted, that we were just in awe of the way they reacted,” said Barnett, “They went after Chris, they kicked him out of school, for something they had no right to do, that’s the main point.”

How come people can’t grasp the concept of free speech. When you say something or post something on the internet those words may have consequences. The consequence in this case was being expelled from school. His right to free speech was not violated. Plus if the accusations are untrue then that cab be considered libel which is not protected speech.

The KIDS Act

Proposal requires sex offenders to list e-mail, IM:
First there was DOPA, then Ted “Tubes” Stevens introduced the Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act. Now we have yet another legislative proposal designed in the name of “keeping children safe” but really doesn’t do anything of the sort. Rep. Earl Pomeroy of North Dakota has proposed the Keeping the Internet Devoid of Sexual Predators Act or KIDS Act, because as we all know no proposal if effective unless it has a catchy acronym to go along with it. If passed the law would require just about any website that has users to cross reference their user information with lists of registered sex offenders. In theory that sounds like a great idea but then again so did Communism. Of course nothing stops an SO from using a fake e-mail address or the ones that haven’t been caught yet. Again just more legislation designed to get votes but has no application in the real world.

Teen finds topless pics of herself on MySpace

Teen finds topless photos of herself on MySpace:
This story is a little more than creepy. It’s a short article so please forgive my C&P…

Authorities are investigating how a photograph of a partially nude juvenile made it onto MySpace, according to a Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office report.

The Port Charlotte teenager told deputies that at about 9 a.m. Sunday she found topless photos of herself on a MySpace page after a friend told her to go to the social networking Web site.

She also told investigators that she had not taken any topless pictures.

She said she found numerous photos of herself on the site, but by the time investigators reached her home to check it, only two photos remained, the report said.

“It is believed that the owner of the MySpace account became aware of the fact that the juvenile found out about the Web site and began to delete the photos,” a deputy wrote in the report.

And no I don’t have the pics you sick freaks.

Teen who filmed Long Island beating arrested

4th Teen Arrested In Videotaped Beating:
The cameraman who taped the beating of a 12-year-old Long Island girl surrendered to police yesterday. The 16-year-old male was charged with the laughable charge of unlawful assembly and was released after posting $100 bond.

On Monday, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy said he hoped the boy’s arrest would send a message to youths.

“I hope this arrest, which we expect to be the final arrest in this case, makes it clear that we are taking this abhorrent behavior very seriously,” Levy said in a statement.

He said he hoped young people would get the message “that bullying or physically abusing peers is serious and unacceptable, not entertainment fodder for a Web site.”

Don’t hold your breath on that one Steve.

Conn. Attorney General blows more hot air at MySpace

Attorney General Calls MySpace Sex Offender Registry “False Security Blanket,” Renews Call For Age Verification:
Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has issued the following press release in regards to MySpace donating a sex offender database to the NCMEC.

“MySpace’s sex offender data base is a false security blanket that ignores and distracts from the real problem – sexual predators not yet caught and convicted trolling for victims. This data base does nothing to protect children from sexual predators still eluding criminal authorities or who lie about their ages and identities while using MySpace. A data base may actually create a false sense of security and comfort that the site is free from predators.

“Protecting children is too important for MySpace to continue taking feel-good baby steps. Without age verification, the problems will continue. Age verification is a must.

“Age verification will help protect kids from the towering danger of sexual predators and inappropriate material on MySpace. The web site and its parent company need to stop making excuses and introduce age verification, as well as raise its minimum age to 16.

“Age verification for users 18 and older using publicly available data is easy and effective. MySpace can confirm the ages of younger users by requiring information from a parent or guardian.

“Our coalition of states continues to grow, reaching 39 last week. I will continue to help lead this powerful and growing coalition in pressing MySpace to introduce age verification. We will consider every available option, including possible legal action, if the site continues to resist age verification.”

I still don’t hear him offering any real solutions. He can form as many coalitions and make as many calls for age verification he wants. Any form of age verification out on the internet today can be circumvented. Is he going to propose any legal action against lax parents who leave their kids roam the internet unattended? Instead of going after MySpace maybe he needs to keep the myriad of sex offenders from The Constitution State behind bars to keep them from reoffending. Just do a search on this site for Scott Shefelbine or David Leonard to see what I mean.

Mr. Blumenthal, stop being a politician and be a prosecutor.
