Police officer’s hearing in MySpace scandal postponed:
Just when you thought it was safe to go to Lexington.

This was one of the first stories involving police and MySpace that I’ve blogged about. You can catch up on it here.

Long story short is they got busted for posting a bunch of inappropriate stuff publicly on their MySpaces all the while acknowledging that they represented Lexington’s finest.

A termination hearing for a Lexington police officer implicated in a scandal involving postings on MySpace.com was delayed after his attorney went to court to stop it.

The delay was not ordered by a judge; rather, the city and attorneys for Officer Joshua Cromer agreed to the postponement. A new time has not been set.

Cromer’s termination hearing had been scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, but an attorney for Cromer went to court Monday to ask for an emergency restraining order to prevent the city from holding the hearing, which would take place in front of the Urban County Council.

The two sides agreed to a postponement after meeting with Judge Thomas Clark.

Wait. That’s his real name? Shane Sidebottom? His parents must not have thought that one through

In papers filed Monday morning in Fayette Circuit Court, attorney Shane Sidebottom argues that the police department took too long to hold the hearing that would determine whether Cromer should lose his job.

Sidebottom argues that state law requires such a hearing within 60 days of an officer’s suspension. He said Cromer was suspended in early October, and that too much time had elapsed.

Your honor, my client may be a dumbass but the city waited too long to fire my client.

And just think, lawyers go to school for that.
