Duquesne hit and run suspect

Suspect surrenders in hit-run:

A driver suspected of deliberately running into two Duquesne University hockey club players on the South Side last week turned himself in yesterday.

Nick Demine, 25, of Monroeville, surrendered to detectives at the South Side police station at 4:30 p.m.

He was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving and accidents involving injury to persons.

He was identified by a passenger as the driver of the car that ran into Tim Fish and Mike Heath and an unidentified companion Nov. 20 in the parking lot of the Iron and Glass Bank on East Carson Street.

Police said words were exchanged between the two groups of men beforehand, then Mr. Demine lurched forward in the vehicle and struck the players, barely missing their friend.

All three of the victims are 22 years old. One managed to jump out of the way of the car, but Mr. Heath was hit and Mr. Fish was pinned between the car and a fence and required treatment for a leg fracture.

Thanks to K we have Demine’s MySpace. Not surprising he appears to be another Fight Club drone.

Mark Alan Pauga

Man, 47, accused in assault of 15-year-old:

LAKE IN THE HILLS A man who met a 15-year-old boy through the Internet was charged with holding the boy against his will and fondling him, officials said.

Mark Alan Pauga, 47, of Villa Park, was charged Friday with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and unlawful restraint stemming from an incident that occurred July 29 in Lake in the Hills, Deputy Chief Mary Frake said.

The teen and Pauga allegedly met through MySpace, a popular Internet site.

Pauga posted $8,000 on Monday to meet his $80,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday to set a date for his preliminary hearing, said Nichole Owens, chief of the criminal division for the McHenry County states attorneys office.

Owens said Pauga and the teen met at Arbys Restaurant, 320 N. Randall Road, Lake in the Hills, in July.

They went into the parking lot. He got into the mans vehicle and Pauga allegedly restrained the child so he could not leave, Owens said.

Pauga is also accused of fondling the boy, Owens said.

Owens said eventually Pauga allowed the teen to get out of the car.

The boy reported the incident to Lake in the Hills police the day it happened, but the investigation was hampered because his full identity was not available through the MySpace site, Frake said.

Other agencies, the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children unit of the Attorney Generals office and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, provided technical assistance, she said.

Eventually, Pauga was identified as a suspect. Villa Park police served a search warrant on his house on Sept. 28, she said.

And as a result of the cooperation, Lake in the Hills police secured a warrant for Paugas arrest on Friday. Elk Grove police arrested him Saturday.

I was unable to find Pauga’s MySpace.

UPDATE: Tipper Mandy was able to find Pauga’s MySpace. Of course he’s proclaiming his innocence.

Students expelled for MySpace fight

Edwardsville board expells 12 students after fight planned on MySpace:

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. The Edwardsville school board voted last night to expel 12 students involved in a fight that officials say had been planned on MySpace-dot-com.

The fight took place on the morning of November Ninth at Edwardsville High School’s common area.

Officials say the 12 students had a history of conflict. All signed a pledge before the fight promising to get along and not insult or hurt each other.

On the day before the fight, the students reportedly discussed plans for the brawl on the social networking Web site MySpace.

Three students have been charged with mob action.

I don’t condone fighting but how lame is it that they were arranging a fight on MySpace? It sounds more like they should have been arranging pedicures for each other.

Trial set for Spring in murder of Ashton Glover

Spring trial set for Sugar Land teen murder suspect:
You can read all my entries about the murder of Ashton Glover and the sick freaks that killed her here.

RICHMOND–Trial dates for Matthew R. McCombs and Sean H. Brown, charged with fatally shooting their 16-year-old friend Ashton Glover in July, has been tentatively scheduled for next spring.

McCombs and his next door neighbor Brown are charged with shooting Glover and burying her body at a muddy construction site off of Oil Field Road. Workers found her body July 10.

The three were seniors and classmates at Clements High School.

In a brief Fort Bend County court appearance today Monday before state District Judge Cliff Vacek, a status hearing was set for Jan. 8 with a trial set for April, May or June.

The hearing lasted only a few mintues and then both defendants, dressed in green jail uniforms, were taken back to the courthouse holding cell.

McCombs and Brown disappeared from their Sugar Land homes about two hours after Glover’s body was unearthed. The suspects were arrested July 12 when they tried to cross the St. Clair River and enter Canada from Port Huron.

Police said McCombs gave investigators a statement admitting he shot the Clements High School student out of “morbid curiosity.”

Arizona teen found in NC

Missing Teen Found In North Carolina:

Silvana Miller said she took her daughter, 14-year-old Samanta Pellegrini, to school Wednesday, but Samanta never made it to class.

Miller said her daughter instead took an American Airlines flight from Phoenix to Raleigh to be with a man she met on the popular social networking Web site MySpace.com.

Samanta’s parents discovered that their daughter had been using two profiles on the Web site, one showing her real age and pictures, and another with fake pictures that said she was 21.

Samanta’s parents said they think she was using the fake profile to lure men.

Samanta’s cell phone records show 36 calls made in the three days before her disappearance to a phone number belonging to a 20-year-old Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C. Her parents said the man is married, with one child and another on the way.

Miller said she got a call Monday from police in North Carolina saying that Samanta has been found with a man at Camp Lejune. The pair is being questioned by police.

“I’m completely shook up because now I know she’s alive, but I can’t talk to her,” Miller told CBS 5 News. “I can’t get anything done, and I’m sitting around on hot coals waiting for a phone call again, as I did before.”

Police said Samanta’s disappearance is a lesson to parents to make sure they know what their children are doing online.

Bullies of the month

MySpace video gets students in trouble:

McClusky High School students face discipline for a video on MySpace.com showing them bullying another student.

School officials became aware of the video Wednesday and spoke with the students. The video was removed from the site, and the school is considering what disciplinary action will be taken against the students.

The video, titled “Bullies of the Month,” was posted on a MySpace page belonging to a 17-year-old from McClusky. MySpace is a site popular with youth and young adults for meeting people, keeping in touch with friends and sharing music and videos.

In the video, students sit on couches and watch while two boys grab a boy standing by the lockers and hoist him off the ground by his wrist and ankles.

After several minutes of struggling, the boy is let go, and one of the two boys says into the camera that he bullied. Another video shows one of the boys from “Bullies of the Month” approaching another student in a chair and shoving at him until he falls out of the chair on the ground. This video does not have credits like the “Bullies” video, but is in the same setting and the student is wearing the same clothing.

“I think they’re just horsing around,” Principal Dan Klemisch said.

Klemisch characterized the teens involved in the video as good kids, one in particular who likes to “clown around,” and together they like to have fun.

“The superintendent must have caught the end of it and there will be consequences,” for the boys, Klemisch said. “They were just being goofy and stupid.”

The superintendent spoke with the students and some teachers Wednesday. They will be disciplined, but Klemisch would not comment on what type of disciplinary action would be taken.

This is one of the reasons why bullying is such a problem in schools. Even when presented with evidence schools don’t take it seriously.
