Tethered girl gets probation
MySpace runaway teen gets probation:
Do you remember the girl from Michigan who ran away to meet a guy she met on MySpace? No, not the one who went to the Middle East, the other one. The one that had to be tethered. Yeah, that one. If you’ve forgotten go here. Anyway, she’s received probation…
MOUNT CLEMENS — A 13-year-old girl who lied about her age and ran away from home with a man she met on the popular Internet site Myspace.com wept Thursday as a court referee sentenced her to probation.
The Harrison Township girl, whose name is being withheld because of her age, was in Macomb Circuit Court on Thursday for a hearing to determine whether she should be placed on probation.
The girl was put on a tether in May and charged with “home truancy,” which is similar to running away from home, after she told a 25-year-old Hammond, Ind., man she was 18 years old and drove across Michigan with him. An Amber Alert was issued after the girl’s mother reported her missing.
On Wednesday, Circuit Court Referee Diane Femminineo agreed with the recommendation of the girl’s probation officer, Kenneth Koltys, who said she should be placed on probation for six months.
I’m sorry, but the fact that she was tethered cracks me up to no end. Maybe all kids should be tethered to something.
