Mother & Daughter Reunited Through MySpace
Mother & Daughter Reunited Through MySpace:
From the MySpace Does Some Good Dept….
A San Jose mother prepares to reunite with the daughter that she hasn’t seen in over a decade. It’s important to stress that it doesn’t appear that there has been any crime committed by the father in taking his daughter. This separation was just one of those tragic domestic situations that so often leaves so many people hurt.
Stephanie Lovato’s heartache began 15 years ago. The young mother didn’t have legal custody of her daughter and little Celina disappeared with her father.
Stephanie Lovato, mother: “She was about 2 1/2 years old last time I saw her. I’m going to start crying. I don’t want to cry.”
Stephanie held onto her daughter’s birth certificate and held onto hope that one day she would find Celina. Stephanie says years of searching got her nowhere, until now and a Web site called MySpace.com.
Stephanie Lovato: “I heard all these horror stories about it, but I knew it was a teenage thing.”
And by now Celina is 17 years old.
So Stephaine created her own web page with a plea for information about her daughter. The breakthrough though came when Stephanie discovered the search button on MySpace.
Stephanie Lovato: “I put in her first name and last initial and when I hit it, four Celinas came up and opened them up and one of them was a 17-year-old Gemini.”
Stephanie clicked on the pictures and says it was like turning back time and looking in the mirror.
Stephanie Lovato: “That picture looked like me at 17. I stood there and stared at it and going, there is no way after 15 years of investigating and money and time and phone and searches that it took 20 minutes on MySpace to find my daughter.”
Stephanie has two other daughters, Melanie and Natalie, and a son, Polo. Tonight after a long flight from Florida, Celina will meet her brother and sisters.
The little girl Stephanie held as a child is all grown up, but she’ll never be too old for her mother.
Stephanie Lovato: “I’m just going to hug her. There’s not going to be a dry eye around here, I know it. I just want to hold her, hold her and tell her I love her.”
Celina will be coming in on a flight Friday night. Stephanie says that Celina will be staying most of the summer here in San Jose and then they’ll take it one step at a time.
Everyone say it together.
