Two Arrests Are Linked To `MySpace’ Internet Site:
There were two arrests in Conn. this weekend that are linked to MySpace users. MySpace just can’t catch a break in Conn. can they?
The first arrest was one Erik Brunsgaard who was arrested for making threatening posts against East Hampton High School…
Erik Brunsgaard, 18, has been charged with second-degree harassment and second-degree breach of peace. He was arrested at his home without incident just before 9 p.m., police said. He is due in Superior Court in Middletown today.
The alleged threats and insults were aimed at East Hampton High School students who use the website, police said. Police did not release the content of the postings.
I was unable to locate his MySpace profile. If anyone comes across it please let me know.
The second arrest was for one 21-year-old Justin Melendez…
Manchester police have charged Justin Melendez, 21, of New Britain with first-degree attempted larceny by extortion, sixth-degree attempted larceny, third-degree criminal mischief and threatening. Police said Melendez on Saturday threatened a woman he met on the MySpace site, damaged the woman’s car and tried to steal her cellphone.
His victim, whom police did not name, was a 19-year-old Niantic woman, police said.
The two met on line Friday and made arrangements for a date Saturday, agreeing that the woman would pick up Melendez at his job at Westfarms mall, police said. On Saturday, the woman picked up Melendez, drove to the Buckland Hills mall and started talking about follow-up dates when Melendez got angry- their work schedules made finding a good day hard, police said. Melendez then allegedly got angrier when the victim took a phone call from a male friend.
The woman demanded Melendez leave the car; he initially refused, saying he had no way to get home. After punching her dashboard, pulling off her rearview mirror and attempting to steal the woman’s phone, Melendez left the car and the woman called police, police said. Police located Melendez on a public bus heading home.
